Magnolia It’s the defined contours of the flower’s petals that tell the story of the magnolia.A detail that proves that this wallpaper is an interpretation of the 19th century Japanese tinted woodcuts. The same art form that inspired artists such as Monet and Manet in the cafés of Montmartre during this time period. The geometrical backdrop is also Japanese, found in patterns on Yukata’s classic everyday costumes. Just like the stems of the plants, drawn according to eastern tradition with its stylized form. The magnolia pattern made it to Sweden thanks to Mirjam Korn who originally designed this wallpaper for the Linné collection in 2007.Show collection Jubileum

Ackord When stripes became high fashion some hundred years ago, the lines had to be symmetrical and repeated with perfection. A lot has happened since then.Today we’re living in the golden age of stripes. Let your eyes linger on the striped coffee cup and you will instinctively know it is by Alfredo Häberli, with no resemblance to either Andy Warhol or Jean Paul Gautier and his sharp black and white lines. Stripes play with our minds and to day we no longer perceive them as separate lines, but rather as one pattern. Similar to the way it works in nature where fields or woods come in all kinds of different shapes and yet somehow manage to create a united harmony. This wallpaper from the 21st century is a virtual digital dream with no strict repetition as far as the eye can see.Show collection Jubileum

Espri This is a wallpaper from the 21st century where nature, people and industry seem to collapse together in a dancelike frenzy. It is truly a pattern full of contrasts. The handdrawn flowers are graphically designed yet manage to wind their way across the wall. Although Espri is more a story of art and nature coming together, the flowers appear to have been immersed in copper, which might explain the covering’s robust and mechanical feel. You can literally see the Nordic style grow across the wallpaper painted by an old, slightly wobbly hand. But if you look a little closer you will see how the nerves of the petals almost turn into twinkling neon lights.Show collection Jubileum

Helena That special love for the worn and frazzled has followed many of us ever since our younger years when we loved our childhood toys to bits. Today, this hardwearing proof of allowing life in all of its shapes and sizes into our homes has become a personal passion for many of us. It has spread like wildfire into one of the strongest interior design trends of our time. This wallpaper from 2012 bears every sign of it. Medallion patterns and gracefully drawn roses in soft pastel with a touch a patina form an idyllic backdrop for everything that was ever personal, that ever captured the essence of you and that will always deserve its very own place in the limelight.Show collection Jubileum

Mizo was brought to Scandinavia courtesy of the Mediterranean preference for tiles and mosaic patterns. The design has a story that goes all the way back to the fall of the Roman Empire when Arab artists were left behind to fill in the gaps. According to Muslim tradition nothing from nature may be depicted, hence the Arabs became masters at producing repetitive mosaic patterns, virtually faultless in their excellence. The tiles were meant to be both inspiring and meditative. When wallpapering became an option, the pattern simply followed suit. The Mediterranean aura of this wallpaper comes from the 1960s and its characteristically warm and lively colors are still highly appreciated today. Show collection Jubileum

Jordgubben These were the times when ABBA crashed into our living rooms with their bellbottom trousers and the Muppets caused havoc on TV. Wallpapers were swinging like John Travolta’s crotch and alternated between patterns featuring round, warm shapes, green, orange, stroboscopic lines and revolutionary experiments in red and black. And there were strawberries just about everywhere. Sometimes on your coffee cup, but just as likely as a pattern on the living room curtains or as a brand new 1970s ice cream. And, of course, strawberries as wallpaper. Our passion for this sweetest of fruits was insatiable – perhaps because it is an eternal reminder of those summer days back when life was literally child’s play.Show collection Jubileum

Funkis If you put your ear close enough, you might just pick up the hammer blows from the public housing projects that transformed Sweden during the 1950s and ’60s. This classic wallpaper from the Million Programme era is in fact the most sold wallpaper type in the history of Sweden. This Boroton design from Boråstapeter is a superb example of a time period where function and quality were key when papering the moulded concrete walls that rebuilt the country. The pattern’s traditional functional graphic pays an aesthetic tribute to both technology and mass production. Today, we see this old classic in a whole new light, still open to interpretation as it is a product of modernism. Who knows, you might even spot signs of modern graphics in the small patterned print that the building contractors of the time never even registered.Show collection Jubileum

Retro During the peak of modernism artists were rejected as immoral. The patterns seen on this wallpaper, with its strict lines and slick surfaces, were constantly at risk of being prohibited. Eventually all the backbiters had to step back and now, as we gaze back on the 20th century, we acknowledge modernism as the art form that dominated the entire century. It goes the whole hog with absurd measures and has influenced functionalist architecture from spiral staircases to apartment buildings. Flora It isn’t really that unexpected for a country like Sweden to produce wallpapers that dreams are made of. After all, it is a place on earth full of people who are constantly longing for the season when everything starts to blossom again. The 1950s witnessed an unrestrained interest in nature’s most beautiful creations among designers throughout the country. Caught in that wind’s eye when everything is balancing between one boot in the field and a polished shoe heading down future’s lane. Nobody knew what was waiting around the corner and creativity was limitless. colors and shapes were at the forefront and wallpapers with summery flowers turned into longedfor light therapy for frostbitten Northerners.Show collection Jubileum

Ingrid Historically speaking, cow parsley on wallpaper has always been a symbol for a grander, posher life and that is only partly due to the poetic, pretty summer meadows in which the flower grows. Its British nickname – Queen Anne’s laces – might give away the reason why cow parsley is often seen in many quite noble situations. This particular wallpaper comes from the 1940s but the lace pattern is more reminiscent of the ornamental ’20s.Show collection Jubileum

Viktoria Are you a person prone to decorating your home with candelabra, teapots and embroidered cushions? Are you drawn to the combination of old, worn chests and industrial furniture, arranged in careless disorder but with spotless elegance? If so, you’re either a hipster or a Shabby Chic enthusiast. Viktoria is the Shabby Chic dream. It brings roses into your home, classically patinated in blue, white and light green. The print is picked up from a typically ’80s collection, during a time when vintage was a trend that gained momentum as a reaction to the overpriced furniture of the middle class. Today, you’ll find Shabby Chic followers in all corners of the world and this prevailing passion for what’s used, antique and just a little uncut seems to never fade.Show collection Jubileum

Josefina The fourleaf clover is spread across this print with a density that is almost eerie. This socalled lucky leaf thrives on being rare. It is in fact so scarce that you’ll find at least ten thousand shamrocks before even being close to stumbling upon its fourleafed sibling. The hardtocatch plant has been featured in Christian mythology as well as Indian and Arabic mysticism. In the early 1900s when printing techniques became more accessible and wallpapers started to be produced in greater quantities, patterns with the lucky clover began finding their way all across Swedish rustic society. And here it is now, winding its way into the gaps of a classic trellis pattern.Show collection Jubileum

Carl This striped wallpaper got its name from Carl Larsson, one of Sweden’s most popular artists. Stripes might very well be the most Swedish pattern of them all. This design has such typically Swedish characteristics it was predestined to be exported to the American east coast. Once on foreign soil it was renamed and became synonymous with their New England style. This is the reason why today, the distinctive stripes are much more synonymous with Martha’s Vineyard than with the Swedish west coast. The truth, however, is that even though stripes were on the walls of virtually every Swedish home as early as the 18th century this pattern went through the textile factories of Indian Madras before reaching Nordic latitudes. And that’s how striped design and mattresses came together.Show collection Jubileum

Lovisa takes you twice back in time. The first time round is in the early 1900s when we dreamt of “home sweet home” and wrapped our rooms in dense flowery patterns featuring heavily romantic signatures. After that, this snug Swedish wallpaper design began its humble flirt with the rococo of the 1700s. You might recall the art form that gave us those billowing bureaus with bulging bellies. Rococo gained a foothold at a time when people started to travel for pleasure and dreamt about discovering the Far East and other remote corners of the world. This is why you’ll find both playful Chinese and asymmetrical signs in this modern interpretation that still manages to instil a sense of sweet serenity in our homes more than a hundred years after its heyday.Show collection Jubileum

Lilja When industrialism flourished sometime during the turn of the 19th century a couple of artists decided it was time for a revolution. They wanted to prove what the hand could do and machine could not. Accordingly, they began painting patterns that went above and beyond every rule and tradition known to man during that era. And, despite the fact that their patterns were full of drawings of beautiful, winding plants revealing nothing but the telltale signs of true romantics, the artists were all depicted as vulgar rebels. Today, their work of art is called Jugend, or Art Nouveau in French. And, should you take a closer look you’ll find every characteristic of a true revolutionary romantic: sweeping unending lines, rhythmically repeated flowers and abstract background lines in total harmony with Jugendstyle painted stems. Quite simply, nature’s harp at play.Show collection Jubileum

EMILY Emily for Lexington is inspired by a fragment of old Cretonne-patterned wallpaper found in a New England archive. Bold tree patterns with birds like these were popular in the USA in the late 1600s. Emily is printed using an old collograph printing technique, where the colors are printed over one another with no drying in between, making every metre unique. It is suitable for walls in both older and newly-built houses, for example, in the living room or kitchen. Emily is named after one of America’s foremost poets, Emily Dickinson, (1830-1886).Show collection Lexington

MARK Mark is made up of attractive pages from the chapter on New England in the old guide book The United States Baedeker’s Handbook for Travelers from 1899. We found this classic guide book in an antiquarian bookshop, and the chapter on New England has been turned into a wallpaper design that harks back to the old method of wallpapering using newspaper and book pages. Mark is printed using an engraving technique and we have taken great care to maintain the beautiful patina displayed by the old pages of the guide book.
